Unmasking Venezuelan Celebration Footage and AI-Generated Pictures of Maduro.

Synthetic images claiming to depict Nicolás Maduro in custody following his apprehension by the American authorities have garnered countless of impressions on social media.

The Way AI Images of Maduro Emerged Within Hours

The first fabricated synthetic picture seemingly showing him led off a plane circulated shortly after. The graphic was not shared any official US channels; it was instead posted on the platform X by an account describing itself as an “enthusiast of AI-generated art”.

Verification involved an AI-watermark detector, determining the image was generated or edited with Google AI.

More synthetic pictures started circulating in the ensuing period, appearing to show different views of the leader detained. Noticeable identifying marks on these pictures reveal they came from an Instagram account called ultravfx.

AI analysis confirms the further pictures were likewise generated or edited generative models.

Authentic Image Released but Fabrications Continued

Donald Trump posted the first real photo of Nicolás Maduro restrained aboard the US Navy ship on Saturday morning. Yet following the authentic image was released, synthetic pictures persisted online but were altered to include the gray sweatsuit worn by Maduro.

Reverse image searches reveal these updated fakes were first posted on the video platform by a digital art account. Once again, analysis confirms the new graphics were generated or edited Google AI.
