Craig Bellamy says the English squad depth is so impressive that a boxing promoter wouldn't match them with his Wales side.

Bellamy's men face England in a friendly at the national stadium on Thursday before their crucial qualifying match against the Belgians next Monday.

National team coach Thomas Tuchel has left the likes of Bellingham, Phil Foden and Grealish from his squad for the Wales friendly and their qualifying game against the Latvian team.

"The English have a incredible squad, like the French," Bellamy said.

"They have a transfer market value of 1.4 billion pounds, Wales' is £170m. If you were a boxing promoter, you wouldn't match us up. It wouldn't be allowed."

Bellamy says ensuring the Welsh team can compete with the talented opponents is a "driving force".

The Wales head coach added: "We don't go off values, but the simple fact is England have more than a single lineup. They possess two, three, four and the French and others are similarly stacked. England have many top talents and that's a fact."

"One right-back was ruled out injured the other day and there's only 24 more to choose from! They've got over sixty players. I wish Wales to be well-equipped similarly."

These two nations last faced each other at the 2022 tournament in the Middle East, when England emerged as comfortable victors in a fixture before Gareth Southgate's side reached the last eight.

The new manager is Tuchel, a Champions League and Fifa Club World Cup winner at Chelsea who has won domestic titles in Ligue 1 and his home country.

Bellamy was previously an coach at Anderlecht and Burnley to Vincent Kompany, who succeeded Tuchel at the German giants.

"He's an outstanding manager - his record is proven," he noted.

"I possess a degree of understanding because the club he left I am familiar with individuals who have joined. I gain a bit of an insight from that of his methods and it's very impressive. "

"His tactical detail is elite and I aimed to be up against that - see how we adjust because he adapts too. I will get to learn from it. I'd love to get to such heights."
