In “It’s a Deal”, a flashback reveals that popular character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his human life. Being aware he was headed to the underworld, he established communication with the realm beyond beforehand to obtain a powerful role in Hell. Rosie, the charismatic leader Hell’s cannibal community, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This prompts an important query: In what way is this character sufficiently strong to elevate Alastor above every other Demonic Sinners?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the first stepping stone in a much bigger story that involves so much, moving into season 3,” the showrunner explains. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The solution could be various factors, but the answer is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to witness it.”

There’s no telling the duration viewers will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have approved seasons 3 and 4, but the creator frequently remarks that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons are undated. Still, she states holding off on specific information is an important part of maintaining the second season's attention in the right places.

“The challenge of any agreement with demons, or narratives that have mysteries, is providing the audience just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and letting that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in The Next Season

The creator promises that season 3 will address the questions followers have been posing, such as why the cannibal leader commanded Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which weakened his influence in the infernal realm.

“The entire seven-year span, and the deals these humans are doing, and everything — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

Meanwhile, the origin story episode offers a further look into how the core cast of Demonic Sinners looked like as mortals, following after seeing another character's historical human form in episode 2. She says that a lot of thought was put into these character designs.

“The human versions of these personas hold so much weight,” she notes. “They range from looking quite distinct from their demon form to looking very similar. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between going with a design that symbolizes the character, versus selecting an option that's historically correct. We leaned toward creating a design that just seemed like it was him.”

She mentions the primary controversy over the mortal look of Pentious was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘No one typically had long hair like that in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we think the silhouette is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of provided the rationale that he lived in seclusion, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there is always a solution. As we create the human versions of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to explore and determine. I'm excited for people to see more of the appearances of the human versions.”

New episodes of Hazbin Hotel the second season are released on midweek on Prime Video.
