19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after March of the previous year.
The win also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
He fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.
Both players traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent rescued four early chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
