PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
