The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive meet filled the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
