Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is truly a dung attempting to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous levels, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a shop to acquire customizations for your dung hero.

Plan your movements precisely, as a error forces beginning again. Leap using bubbles to hurl yourself upward, cross disappearing ledges, and activate switches to open new areas. Collect coins and use them on challenging game content as things intensifies.

Visually, the demo features eye-catching environments and an amazing background music. Its minimalist visual style of morphing abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of similar titles where you control a coiled turd, video games often featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content appears heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already received notable accolades, including winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready at present on Steam, with the final release set to debut on PC in the fall.
